Summary

Steven Wardlaw resides in Moscow and is the partner in charge for the firm's Moscow office. Mr. Wardlaw has in-depth experience of all aspects of large-scale energy, project, and corporate matters, particularly the structuring and development of liberalised markets in the gas and power sectors. He advises leading energy companies, regulatory bodies, and governments on projects undertaken in the downstream and midstream energy sector in the U.K., Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Mr. Wardlaw qualified as a solicitor at Slaughter and May in 1994, and before joining Baker Botts also worked at Johnson Matthey plc and at Landwell, the PricewaterhouseCoopers law firm.

Russia/CIS Energy and Natural Resources

  • Russian oil company – structuring shareholder arrangements for the Burgas Alexandropoulos pipeline and drafting the initial agreement between investors
  • Russian gas company – leading team in relation to the acquisition of a blocking minority stake in the Sakhalin II LNG development
  • Russian gas company – representation as team leader in relation to the acquisition of TNK-BP's stake in the Kovykta gas field
  • The electricity trading administrator in Russia (ATS) on the redrafting of its capacity agreements, and on an alternative structure for licensed generation

  • MOL Hungarian Oil and Gas Company – acquisition of an oil production company in Siberia
