Power Up: Carlos Solé, Jeremy Kennedy Bolster Baker Botts’ Energy Team
New Partners Add Depth and Breadth to Firm’s Global Projects Department
HOUSTON, March 25, 2013 -- Carlos Solé and Jeremy Kennedy joined Baker Botts L.L.P. today as partners, bolstering the firm’s domestic and international energy transactional team. They will be based in the firm’s Houston office.
Solé and Kennedy represent multinational energy companies, state-owned enterprises and private equity interests in a diverse array of energy-related projects and transactions in the electric power and oil and gas sectors. They also have extensive experience advising clients on cross-border matters in Latin America.
“Carlos and Jeremy enhance Baker Botts’ core strengths and they help expand our offering in Latin America, which is a strategic region for the firm,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner Andrew Baker. “Activity in the global energy markets remains high and so too does our appetite for adding lawyers who have the expertise in guiding clients through complex, sophisticated transactions.”
With nearly 20 years of experience, Solé has advised clients on project finance and M&A transactions involving renewable energy and fossil-fuel power plants, LNG projects and upstream and downstream oil and gas assets. In his 10 years of practice, Kennedy has focused on similar matters and also brings experience involving midstream oil and gas assets and other maritime projects in the energy industry.
“The addition of Carlos and Jeremy not only increases the depth of our international power projects practice, it extends its scope substantially in Latin America and thereby reinforces our market-leading position,” said Jamie Baker, chair of the firm’s Global Projects department.
Solé earned his law degree and a masters degree in public affairs from The University of Texas at Austin. A native speaker of Spanish, Solé was recognized by The Legal 500 Latin America 2012 for his Projects & Energy practice. He serves on the Advisory Board to the International Bar Association’s Power Law Committee.
Kennedy earned his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law summa cum laude where he was editor-in-chief of Volume 34 of the Texas Tech Law Review. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Energy Law360.
