Jason Newman represents clients in a broad range of matters, including energy litigation, energy related transactions and acquisitions, regulatory and administrative proceedings, commercial disputes and personal injury litigation. He also handles a wide range of matters involving indemnity, insurance and contractual disputes.

Mr. Newman advises energy clients on all aspects of legal and operational issues arising from the rapid development of the various oil and gas shale plays throughout Texas and the United States. Mr. Newman routinely represents and advises clients on disputes arising from oil and gas leases, royalty obligations, surface disputes, title disputes, contractor disputes, joint operating and joint development agreements, unit designations, preferential rights to purchase and crude oil pricing. He was profiled by Texas Lawyer in “Baker Botts’ High-Powered Year,” which named Baker Botts the 2014 Energy Litigation Department of the Year.

In addition to litigation and dispute resolution, Mr. Newman represents and advises oil and gas operators in transactional engagements, including asset sales, oil and gas lease negotiations, title issues and risk mitigation. Mr. Newman also counsels energy clients on emerging trends in energy law stemming from the increase in horizontal drilling. His clients include Murphy Oil Corporation, EOG Resources, Marathon Oil Company, Dominion Resources and CenterPoint Energy, among others.
