Rich Harper is a trial partner in the New York office of Baker Botts. He represents public and private companies in a broad range of complex commercial litigation and on corporate governance matters. As to his commercial litigation practice, Rich has received dismissals, summary judgments and verdicts for his clients in significant matters across a variety of sectors, including energy, media, technology, and consumer products. In his counseling practice, Rich advises companies on governance and securities related issues.
Recent Complex Commercial Litigation Tried to a Decision:
- Pramer S.C.A. (Liberty Global plc) – tried two week jury trial to verdict and argued appeal in international contract and business tort litigation
- Neiman Marcus – received AAA award in commercial contract dispute, as well as trial and appellate enforcement decisions
- YA Global Investments, L.P. (Hedge Fund) – tried contract, fraud, and fiduciary duty claims brought by biotechnology company in bankruptcy court
- Liberty Media Corporation – tried bondholder litigation in Delaware Court of Chancery
Since 2013, Rich has served as a faculty member of the Intensive Trial Practice Workshop of the University of Chicago Law School. He has also had significant involvement with the American Bar Association, serving most recently, as Co-Chair of the ABA Section of Litigation's Military Task Force Committee.
