Baker Botts Examines Growth Potential for Natural Gas & LNG at 2017 China Energy Assembly

Media Alert
BEIJING, 18 September, 2017 - Baker Botts is taking part in the 2017 China Energy Assembly this week at the China World Summit Wing, Beijing, China from 20 - 21 September 2017.

The China Energy Assembly is recognised as the premier international energy meeting in China, attracting the participation of Chinese State-Owned Enterprises, global energy companies, industry advisors, financiers and investors. Organised in association with the Energy Council, the 2017 Assembly will gather together over 300 leaders from the upstream, midstream/LNG, downstream, trading, finance, investment and petroleum services sectors to listen to experts discuss China's changing energy landscape and explore the best business and marketing strategies to address China's evolving energy requirements.

Baker Botts’ Asia Partner in Charge, Michael Arruda, will moderate an industry panel discussion:

Assembly Day 1 - Wednesday 20 September

11:30 – 12:30pm: Session 2: Growth by Natural Gas & LNG
As the GDP of China’s cities varies widely from province to province, which new gas markets and opportunities are emerging? Who are the companies successfully exploiting China’s domestic shale, coal-bed methane, tight gas and unconventional projects? If China’s gas demand grows as quickly as predicted, what proportions of domestic gas, piped gas and LNG will plug the gap? Trucked LNG now accounts for 3.5mtpa in China, so where are opportunities for added growth?

  • Shan Weiguo, Head of Gas Market Study, ETRI, CNPC
  • Liu Yongxin, Senior Vice President, ENN Energy Holdings
  • Zhu Chen, Managing Director, SIA Energy
  • Chen Gang, General Manager Assistant, Shanghai Petroleum and Natural Gas Exchange (SHPGX)
  • John Tichotsky, Economic Advisor, Alaska Gasline Development Corporation
  • Michael Arruda, Partner in Charge, Asia, Baker Botts (Moderator)

The Baker Botts team will be led by Michael Arruda (Partner In Charge, Asia) and supported by Jeff Layman (Partner, Beijing) and Joanne Du (Partner, Hong Kong).
