The LNG Forum is designed to promote a deeper understanding of the legal issues and commercial considerations for LNG projects and to explore innovative solutions in new areas of the LNG market. LNG to Power is an effective and flexible solution to the growing demand for power, particularly in developing economies. LNG to Power sits at a crossroads that presents several unprecedented opportunities for those involved in this gas value chain.
Leading partners from Baker Botts’ Energy Practice were joined by 75 industry professionals and in-house energy experts to listen to a panel discussion about the challenges and opportunities facing the LNG to Power Sector. Panel speakers included: Ragnar Wisløff, Chief Commercial Officer at Höegh LNG, Frederik Smits van Oyen, Vice President Origination and Marketing EMEA, Cheniere Energy, Vasco Vitorio, Director, Event Financing, Infrastructure & Real Estate Group, HSBC Bank PLC and Robin Mizrahi, Projects Partner, Baker Botts.
“I am pleased that our forum allowed leading industry professionals and our experts to freely share their insights with participants and explore new opportunities in the LNG to Power sector. Gas industry dynamics are changing - so no one can accurately predict what will happen next. LNG to Power is being greatly influenced by regional regulatory, political and economic impacts and new technological advances in the LNG supply chain. Projects are now coming on stream that were approved several years ago in a more robust pricing environment. New project management and financing models will be put in place to specifically capture these regional characteristics and contain costs,” said Mark Rowley, Partner-in-Charge of Baker Botts in London.
“The rising use of small scale floating regas is also expected to change the LNG landscape. Companies are choosing to pick a floating structure as it reduces the project development time and capital expenditure typically associated with land-based storage. Floating regas carries less onerous operational risks and regulatory burdens, so it improves optionality and permits redeployment of assets,” added John White, Partner, Baker Botts in Moscow.
“I am delighted to promote a deeper understanding of LNG to Power by discussing my own experiences with industry practitioners at this LNG Forum,” said Robin Mizrahi, a partner in Baker Botts’ Global Projects Practice. “I trust that my insights will help participants to plan and develop effective LNG to Power projects in future.”
The Baker Botts team comprised Mark Rowley (Partner-in-Charge, London), John White (Partner, Moscow) and Robin Mizrahi (Partner, London).
