Summary

As a partner in the global projects group, John White concentrates on the development and finance of large-scale energy and infrastructure projects. Mr White’s experience includes the building, acquisition, chartering and financing of LNG (and other) vessels, FRSUs, rigs and railcars.

Mr. White has worked on major projects in the U.K., U.S., Middle East, Russia, Europe, Nigeria, India and Brazil involving LNG, oil and gas pipelines, power and water, chemical facilities and infrastructure projects.

Before joining Baker Botts, Mr. White worked in the asset and project finance group of Linklaters London and was a partner at another international U.S. law firm.

Representative Engagements

  • Major Energy Company – advising on the development of a floating liquefaction project, including an RFP, FEED contract, joint venture agreement, EPC contract and related agreements for an FLNG (floating liquefaction) vessel
  • Papua New Guinea LNG Project – member of the team advising on LNG shipping matters, including shipbuilding contracts, time charter parties and related documents
  • Brass LNG Ltd – leading the shipping team on this greenfield Nigerian LNG project (10 mtpa), including advising on bidding arrangements, shipbuilding contracts, time charter parties, bareboat charter parties, vessel purchase agreements, financing arrangements and related agreements for a fleet of circa 12 LNG vessels; project sponsors include NNPC, Total, ConocoPhillips, and ENI
  • Petrobras – advising on the tender for and chartering of two LNG floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) for operation at two new marine terminals in Brazil (Pecem and Rio). The first such FSRU (delivered in August 2008) was the world’s first to enter commercial operation, the second is scheduled for delivery early Q3 2009
  • Tullow Ghana – advising a consortium in relation to the time chartering and operation of an FPSO vessel, and related activities
  • Major Energy Company – advising on the development of a gas-to-liquids (GTL) project (confidential)
  • Petronet LNG Ltd. – advising on the tendering and time charter parties for two LNG vessels
  • BP – advising on marine services and related agreements and issues for an LNG receiving terminal in Baja California, Mexico
  • U.S. Financial Institution – advice on shipbuilding, time charter party and related operational agreements for a fleet of vessels to transport compressed natural gas (CNG) in and around certain Caribbean countries
  • EG LNG Holding Company – advising on port and shipping arrangements for the LNG and Methanol exports from the shared port facilities Malabo, Equatorial Guinea
  • Marathon Oil Corp. – shareholders' financing of development and construction costs for the Equatorial Guinea, Alba Phase III, LNG facility
  • Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline Company – opinion issues relating to the construction, operation, and financing of the BTC Oil Pipeline
  • BP – advising on the time charter party tender for a fleet of LNG vessels for the Tangguh LNG project
  • Centrica plc – structured financing (involving sale and leaseback arrangements) of two gas rigs located in the Irish Sea
  • Air Lease International – various bareboat and time charter parties of oil tankers, and the scrapping of end-of-life tankers
  • Major Shipping Line – advising on the purchase, sale, re-registration of vessels, and the “hive-up” of a core business unit
  • Sasol Ltd – advising parent company in connection with project financing of the Oryx GTL Project in Qatar
