Massive data breaches that hit over 21 million US Government employees and prominent private sector companies made 2015 the year cybersecurity issues began to hit home more than ever before. 2016 is already shaping up to be more serious -- a recent attack on the electric grid in Ukraine brought home the threat of physical damage to critical infrastructure from information and system compromises.
Baker Botts is pleased to help our clients and friends prepare for these challenges with a two part Cybersecurity "Tool Kit" CLE that will address the technological and human vulnerabilities that encompass cybersecurity. Our panelists, Samir Bhavsar, Guillermo Christensen and Doug Henkin, will bring a wealth of technology, investigations and counterintelligence background to bear on these issues.
Session 1 was held on February 17 and looked at the threats and vulnerabilities, from traditional hacker exploits to spearfishing, ransomware, social engineering, and insider threats.
Session 2 on April 7 will focus on preparing your company, and in particular the Law and Compliance Department, to plan for risk mitigation and, in the extreme, to respond to an attack, whether an as an internal matter or dealing with law enforcement. We will discuss topics such as the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 ("CISA"), the challenges of Data Privacy and the proliferation of risks from the "Internet of Things" (IoT). We will also focus on how Boards should prepare as regulators step up their focus on information security for public companies and those in regulated sectors.
