AIPLA Elects Baker Botts Partner Mark Whitaker as General Counsel

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 24, 2012 -- Baker Botts L.L.P. Partner Mark Whitaker has been elected to a three-year term as General Counsel of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).

Whitaker, Chair of Baker Botts’ International Trade Commission practice, will manage the association’s legal matters and attend AIPLA Board and Executive Committee meetings.

“This is an honor and a challenge,” Whitaker said of his election as AIPLA general counsel. “The legal issues confronting the association and its members in today’s high-tech driven, global economy are complex.

Whitaker is based in Baker Botts’ Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on patent and trademark litigation and counseling in the United States and around the world. He also represents clients in fast-track intellectual property litigation before the International Trade Commission under Section 337 (19 U.S.C. 1337).

Whitaker began his private-practice legal career as a commercial litigator before concentrating on IP and technology matters. In addition to the mechanical arts, he has successfully represented clients in electronics, telecommunication, chemical and software process patent disputes and licensing campaigns.
