About Baker Botts
Texas C-Bar
The Austin, Dallas and Houston offices are charter sponsors of the Texas Community Building With Attorney Resources (Texas C-BAR), a statewide pro bono effort that provides transactional lawyers with nonlitigation pro bono opportunities and resources to effectively represent pro bono clients. The Texas C-BAR serves community-based nonprofit organizations trying to bring affordable housing and other improvements to low-income neighborhoods. In connection with Texas C-BAR, our lawyers have helped nonprofit organizations with projects to build affordable housing in Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley. Baker Botts has also advised El Puente CDC – a community development group working to improve the economic, social, educational and living conditions in El Paso – regarding the appropriate corporate structure for its two nonexempt subsidiary corporations.

The types of matters that Baker Botts lawyers typically handle through Texas C-BAR are:
  • Nonprofit incorporation
  • Nonprofit tax advice
  • Construction contract negotiation
  • Preparing real estate documents
  • Clearing title to parcels of land
  • Reviewing loan documents

In 2003, Baker Botts completed over 12,000 hours of pro bono work and was honored by the Pro Bono Committee of the American Bar Association Business Law Section with its National Public Service Award for providing significant pro bono legal services to the poor through Texas C-BAR. Baker Botts also received Texas C-BAR's Community Builder Award in October 2001 in recognition of its work in projects coordinated through Texas C-BAR.
